Theo is a German Shepherd mix and has been trained extensively to provide emotional support and comfort. He will be working alongside Ms. Garren to assist students in various ways, including:
Providing Comfort and Stress Relief: Theo will be available to students who may be feeling anxious or overwhelmed. Studies show that interacting with therapy dogs can significantly reduce stress and help students feel more at ease.
Enhancing Social and Emotional Learning: By spending time with Theo, students can develop greater empathy, improve their social skills, and build self-confidence.
Supporting Academic Engagement: A calming presence like Theo can create a more focused learning environment, helping students engage more effectively with their studies.
Theo has been certified through the AKC and is a new inductee in the Allied Therapy Dog Association. He is also approved by school policy. He has undergone thorough training to ensure his readiness to interact safely and positively with our students. To maintain a healthy and positive environment, we will follow specific guidelines, including:
Controlled Interactions: Theo will have designated times and places for interaction to ensure that he is not overwhelmed and that all students who wish to interact with him can do so in a safe manner.
Health and Safety Protocols: Theo will be regularly checked by a veterinarian, and all necessary hygiene practices will be followed to ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone.
We believe that Theo will be a valuable asset to our school community, bringing joy and comfort to our students.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact he will undoubtedly have on our students.
